 This is Depressing - but true.
Frankie Ervin - lead singer of YOU CHEATED by the SHIELDS was a registered sex offender in the State of California. Frankie at last I heard was living in a hospice suffering from mental dementia. I was informed of this by Charles Wright who sang with the Shields on tour and by Grady Chapman of the Robins. In 1989 Frankie popped up on the scene in Los Angeles after a hiatus of many years. At a club show featuring Charles Wright and his 103rd Street band Brenton Wood, Frankie and other singers were present and after the show I inquired about the fates of singers like Johnny Torrence of the Jewels, Henry Huston of the 2nd Cufflinks and Julian Herrera. Some of the guys had seen Johnny Torrence at shows [I never did find him], no one knew the whereabouts of Henry Huston and Frankie Ervin volunteered the number of Ron Gregory aka Julian Herrera. I had called and met with Johnny Otis who told me of Ron Gregory's life - that he was a Hungarian Gypsy who ran away from his family when he was a teenager and wound up in L.A. etc. My one and only phone call to Ron Gregory is the subject of another writing installment. But, at that time I asked someone who knew both Frankie and Julian aka Ron well and he told be that Frankie knew Ron when both were incarcerated at Chino State Prison.  Ron was imprisoned for a different offense then Frankie.
